Principal Demographer, Lead Of Demographic And Decennial Research Group at U.S. Census Bureau

Erik Vickstrom has a diverse work experience spanning over various organizations and roles. Erik'smost recent position is as the Principal Demographer and Lead of the Demographic and Decennial Research Group at the U.S. Census Bureau, where they have been working since December 2022. Prior to this, they held the role of Senior Demographer and Lead of the same research group from February 2020 to December 2022. Before joining the U.S. Census Bureau, Erik worked as a Demographic Survey Statistician at the bureau from April 2019 to February 2020.

Erik has also worked as a Research Fellow at the IZA - Institute of Labor Economics since September 2014. Additionally, Erik served as a Policy Analyst in the International Migration Division at OECD - OCDE from April 2017 to April 2019.

Erik's work experience also includes roles at Princeton University as a Statistical Consultant, Ph.D. Candidate, and Graduate Research Assistant in the Center for Migration and Development, for various periods between 2007 and 2013. Erik also worked as a Graduate Fellow at Ined - Institut national d'études démographiques from January 2012 to August 2013.

Prior to their time at Princeton University, Erik held positions such as Project Management Associate at Chemonics International from May 2006 to May 2007, and Associate Director for Study Abroad and Communication at Africa Consultants International from May 2003 to September 2005.

Erik's early career includes work as a Teacher of Vocational English at the International Rescue Committee from November 2002 to May 2003. Overall, Erik possesses a wealth of experience in demographic research and analysis, as well as expertise in migration and labor economics.

Erik Vickstrom has an extensive education history. Erik obtained their Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Policy from Princeton University from 2007 to 2013. During the same period, they also completed a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Sociology at Princeton University. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology and American Studies from Wesleyan University from 1995 to 1998. In 2014 to 2016, Erik pursued a Master's Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University School of Business.
