The U.S. Copyright Office is a critical part of the country’s extraordinary copyright system, tasked with the important mission of administering U.S. copyright law. The Office examines works of authorship for registration; records transfers of ownership for copyright claims; administers several statutory licenses; provides the public with copyright information and education; conducts legal and policy studies; and assists Congress, the courts, and other governmental entities.
