Robert Thornton

Lead Solutions Architect at U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Robert Thornton has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Robert began their career in 1986 in the United States Air Force, serving in various roles related to antenna communications and cyber security communications. After leaving the Air Force, they joined Intel in 1994 as an Information Technology Engineer, where they were responsible for network design, implementation, and support. In 1997, they joined Cisco Systems, where they held multiple roles, including Senior Network Engineer and Network Consultant, working with major service providers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. In 2009, they transitioned to the United States Department of Defense, managing a team of technical engineers and providing network engineering support for the Iraq Theater Information Grid. Robert then worked at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a Business Manager Network Engineer, where they provided data center design concepts and managed a team of senior engineers. Recently, they worked at MetLife as the Director of Branch Networking before joining the U.S. Customs and Border Protection as a Lead Solutions Architect, providing integration solutions for data center initiatives. Throughout their career, Thornton has demonstrated expertise in network engineering, solution integration, and leadership.

Robert Thornton attended Los Rios Community College, where they studied English until 1995. From 1990 to 1994, they pursued an Associate's degree in Electronics at Sacramento City College. Robert also attended the Community College of the Air Force for electronics, although the start and end years are unspecified. Additionally, Robert holds a certification as a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).
