Valla Olliver has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. In their most recent role as the Deputy Executive Director (DXD) Technical Operations Lead for Cargo Systems Program Directorate at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Valla supervises a team of 150+ Information Technology Specialists and Developers. Their responsibilities include overseeing the operation, sustainment, and cloud modernization of various applications related to customs and border protection.

Prior to this, Valla worked at DISA in multiple positions. As a Computer Scientist in the Requirements and Analysis Office, they led an Integrated Product Team for information technology requirements and successfully captured over 1000 requirements from various agencies. In another role, as a member of the Defense Collaboration Services (DCS) Engineering team, Valla coordinated system upgrades and enhancements for DISA's web conference and chat applications.

Valla also gained experience in the public sector while working at the National Science Foundation. As an Information Technology & Grant Specialist, they administered and provided oversight for assistance awards across the organization.

In addition to their roles in government and public sector organizations, Valla also served as a Sr. Consultant/Systems Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton, where they provided system engineering consultation to Department of Defense clients. They also held positions in the U.S. Navy Reserve and the U.S. Navy as a Personnel Officer and Naval Officer, respectively.

Earlier in their career, Valla had an internship at The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

Throughout their career, Valla demonstrated strong leadership skills, teamwork, and the ability to effectively manage and coordinate technical activities and requirements.

Valla Olliver attended Heritage High School from 1997 to 2001. In 2001, they went on to study Computer Science at the United States Naval Academy, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in 2005. Valla furthered their education at Colorado Technical University from 2009 to 2010, earning a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Information Technology Management. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications, including CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 Foundation.
