Douglas Smith is the Director of Location & Land Use at the U.S. Green Building Council since July 2024, focusing on defining strategic priorities across various rating systems related to urban design, land use, and sustainable practices. Prior to this role, Douglas served as Bureau Chief of Planning for the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, overseeing functions such as comprehensive planning, zoning, and historic preservation. Douglas's earlier experience includes roles as a Senior Planner, Sustainability Planner, and Stormwater Intern, where significant contributions were made to urban sustainability initiatives and community planning. Douglas holds a Master of Urban & Regional Planning with a focus on Environmental Planning and Real Estate Development, alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science from Franklin & Marshall College. Additional experience includes music direction at Wisdom’s Table and research roles at the University of Michigan and Franklin & Marshall College.
