Everton Barreto has a diverse work experience in the field of sugarcane and energy cane breeding. Everton worked as a Sugarcane Variety Scientist at U.S. Sugar Corp starting in September 2016. Prior to that, they served as a Research Associate at LSU AgCenter from December 2015 to September 2016.

From July 2012 to December 2015, Everton worked as an Associate Research Scientist at Texas A&M University, where they managed sugarcane and energy cane procedures and oversaw breeding programs. Everton was also responsible for coordinating all phases of the breeding programs and germplasm bank.

Afterward, Everton went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Plant Production, with a focus on Genetics, at the same university from 2002 to 2004.
