Stathia Sylvester

Stathia Sylvester has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Stathia began their career as a Legal Specialist at Dykema Gossett PLLC in 1985 and later worked as a Staff Manager in the Legal Department at Michigan Bell/Ameritech. In 1994, they transitioned to Insurance Overload Staffing as a Claims Representative, and then joined Detroit Diesel Corporation as a Benefits Representative in 1998.

From 2004 to 2006, Sylvester worked as a Training Coordinator at Lighthouse Consulting Partners before joining Advanced Technology Academy as a Middle School Science and Social Studies Teacher from 2006 to 2011. Stathia then served as a Legal/HR Admin. Assistant at UAW RMBT from 2011 to 2012, followed by a role as Communications and Compliance Manager at NGS American, Inc. from 2012 to 2013.

In 2014, Sylvester started their own consultancy, Astraea Consulting, before joining UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust. At UAW, they initially worked as an Administrative Assistant to the CAO from 2014 to 2016, then became a Paralegal from 2016 to 2020, and currently holds the position of Senior Human Resources Generalist, starting in December 2020.

Overall, Sylvester has gained extensive experience in various roles, including legal, human resources, administration, education, and consulting.

Stathia Sylvester has a diverse education history. Stathia attended Wayne State University from 2000 to 2006 and pursued master's level coursework in Education, which also led to their teacher certification. Prior to this, in 1985, they completed a Post Bachelor's Certificate in Litigation Management from the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Studies. Sylvester began their educational journey at Michigan State University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Prelaw from 1982 to 1984.

In addition to their formal education, Sylvester has obtained various certifications. In 2013, they obtained their SPHR certification from the HR Certification Institute. In 2006, they received their Teacher Certification K-8 self-contained, Science 6-8, and Social Studies 6-8 from the Michigan Department of Education. Sylvester also holds a Paralegal certification from the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Studies. Furthermore, they are a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certified by SHRM.
