Melissa McHale

Associate Professor Of Urban Ecology at UBC Faculty of Forestry

Melissa McHale is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in urban ecology and transdisciplinary research. Currently serving as an Associate Professor of Urban Ecology at The University of British Columbia's Faculty of Forestry since September 2021, McHale also holds the position of Associate Professor at Colorado State University since December 2016. Additionally, McHale has been a Visiting Scholar and Senior Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand since May 2014, focusing on sustainable livelihoods and lifestyles in poverty-stricken communities near Kruger National Park in South Africa. Previous roles include Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Urban Ecology at NC State University from December 2008 to December 2016, and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Arizona State University from January 2007 to December 2008. McHale earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Ecology from Colorado State University in 2007 and a Bachelor of Science in Ecology from Rutgers University in 1998.
