James Holdgate

James Holdgate has over 20 years of work experience. From 1996 to 2001, they worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Baxall Ltd. From 2001 to 2007, they worked as an Industrial Designer and Senior Associate at DCA Design International, where they designed hand-held mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic drug delivery devices. From 2007 to 2009, they worked as an Engineering Design Manager at IMI Cornelius. From 2009 to 2013, they worked as a Senior Project Manager at Olympus, where they were responsible for electrosurgical instruments for laparoscopic surgery. From 2013 to 2016, they worked as Head of New Product Development at Vax Ltd, where they managed product management, new product development, research and development, and performance claims for vacuums, carpet washers, hard floor cleaners, and steam mops. Finally, from 2016 to present, they have been the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Projects at RootWave (Ubiqutek Ltd). In this role, they are responsible for electrical weed control systems for agricultural, horticultural, and urban applications, as an alternative to chemical herbicide.

James Holdgate attended Bingley Grammar School from 1987 to 1992. James then went on to pursue a Ba in Industrial Design from Loughborough University from 1992 to 1995. James continued their studies at Loughborough University and obtained a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Design Process in 1998-2002.
