Kai Akamatsu

Kai Akamatsu is currently a PhD student in Biomathematics at UCLA, a position held since September 2024. Prior to this, Akamatsu worked as an undergraduate researcher in the Amariuta Laboratory at the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute, UC San Diego, focusing on genetic models of gene expression from October 2022 to September 2024. In addition, Akamatsu held various leadership roles in Alpha Epsilon Delta, including BLS Director, Treasurer, and CPR Instructor from January 2022 to June 2024, and served as the Vice President - External of HealthLink at UC San Diego from July 2022 to January 2024. An internship at Health Frontiers in Tijuana involved providing services at a free clinic for underserved populations during the summer of 2023. Earlier experiences include working as a laboratory assistant at UC San Diego Health's Moores Cancer Center, where research focused on hematopoietic stem cells, and volunteering in a post-anesthesia care unit and at a comprehensive cancer center. Akamatsu earned a Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics with a 4.0 GPA from UC San Diego from 2021 to 2024, following a diploma from Troy High School in 2021.
