Yichen Zhu is an undergraduate researcher at Lammel Lab, University of California, Berkeley, since June 2018, focusing on characterizing brainstem to midbrain circuits linked to nicotine aversion through techniques such as Jugular Vein Catheterization, histology, and fiber photometry. Yichen has contributed to notable publications, including studies on transgenic mouse models and dopamine system aversion hot spots. As Co-President of the American Physician Scientists Association at UC Berkeley, Yichen supports students interested in the MD-PhD pathway. Additionally, clinical shadowing experiences are being undertaken at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland under Dr. Peter Sun, Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery. Yichen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology with a Neurobiology concentration from UC Berkeley and graduated as valedictorian from the International School Bangkok's IB Program.
