Poonam Majithia has a diverse and extensive work experience. Poonam started their career as a Legal Intern at The Economist in 2010, followed by a role as a Legal Intern at eBay in 2011. In 2012, they worked as a Paralegal at Amazon.co.uk in the Media Products and Online Marketplaces department.
Poonam then joined CMS UK in 2013 as a Trainee Solicitor, where they later became an Associate in the Intellectual Property Team. At CMS UK, they advised clients on intellectual property disputes, sponsorship and licensing agreements, and advertising and marketing issues. Poonam developed particular expertise in assisting clients in the Sport, TMT, and Consumer Products sectors.
In 2016, Poonam had a secondment at the British Olympic Association, where they provided legal support to Team GB in the run-up to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Their responsibilities included advising on ambush marketing, brand protection strategy, commercial agreements, and sports regulation and governance issues.
Poonam had another secondment at the British Olympic Association in 2018 for the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, where they managed cases of IP infringement, drafted and negotiated commercial agreements, and provided ad-hoc legal advice to the business.
From 2019 to 2021, Poonam worked at Chelsea Football Club as a Legal Counsel, advising across various areas of the business, including broadcasting, merchandising, partnerships, and brand protection.
In 2019, Poonam also spent one year as a Shadow Board Director at Women in Football Official, where they shadowed the board of directors, attended meetings, and contributed to key projects.
More recently, Poonam joined the UEFA in 2021 as a Legal Counsel, and in 2022, they became an Independent Non-Executive Director at Middlesex FA.
Throughout their career, Poonam has consistently demonstrated expertise in legal counsel, intellectual property, brand protection, sponsorship, and commercial agreements in the sports, media, and consumer products industries.
Poonam Majithia's education history begins in 2004 when they enrolled at The University of Edinburgh. Poonam pursued a Bachelor's degree in Modern European Languages (French and German) and European Union Studies, which they completed in 2008. In 2007, they briefly attended Université Paris-Sorbonne to study German and History. Later in 2009, they attended BPP Law School, where they completed their Graduate Diploma in Law from 2009 to 2010 and their Legal Practice Course from 2011 to 2012. Additionally, they spent a short period in 2009 at the University of Havana, where they studied Advanced Spanish. Moving forward, they obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law and Practice from the University of Oxford from 2016 to 2017. Finally, in 2017, they attended De Montfort University, where they earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Law from the British Association for Sport and Law, completing it in 2018.
