About the Opportunity

UJA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Director, Design to play a pivotal role in building a UJA brand to appeal to prospective donors, while enhancing existing donor’s connection to UJA. As a member of the Marketing Hub team, reporting to the VP of Marketing & Brand Strategy, this role will be responsible for supporting the development of brand strategy from a design perspective, for conceptualizing, designing, and producing a wide range of projects supporting the UJA Federation to support and amplify our fundraising efforts and programming objectives in print, digital and experiential design and coaching and mentoring the other designers across the UJA organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design process for UJA Federation enterprise initiatives (for example our AGM, annual reports, impact reports etc.) ensuring creative and innovative, well-thought out and brand aligned, impactful campaigns that enhance brand equity, are on-time and on-budget and deliver on the goals outlined for each initiative.
  • Translate an idea effectively and flawlessly across multiple messaging touchpoints including email, web, print, social, and event signage.
  • Ensure design quality, consistency, and delivery by project deadlines.
  • Support the development of a brand strategy from a design perspective to build a brand that appeals to prospective donors, while enhancing current donors’ connection to UJA.
  • Develop style guides and tools to support production teams.
  • Support the growth of UJA brand familiarity, affinity, and perception.
  • Lead the design creation of branding campaigns and guidelines, ensuring consistency in brand identity and messaging across all platforms.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Operations and Digital Marketing teams to ensure design alignment with overall brand strategy and coordinate with the Events team to enhance consistent brand visibility and engagement.
  • Mentor and coach the other designers to champion UJA brand standards and guidelines across the organization. Act as a brand steward, ensuring that all employees understand and adhere to our brand principles. Provide support and guidance to team members to maintain a cohesive and consistent brand identity.
  • Support relationships with external agencies and vendors, ensuring that all marketing materials meet brand standards and campaign goals. Support RFP processes to find the right partners.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • A degree in Design, Communications/Advertising or related discipline

  • 7+ years of working experience as a Graphic Designer

  • A hands-on designer - proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Motion Design software a plus.

  • Excellent portfolio of work that demonstrates high-quality ideation and design within a variety of marketing campaign projects.

  • Undeniable creative chops: you play a critical role in the conceptual phase of projects, and work seamlessly with your team to deliver winning projects.

  • Ability to gracefully handle pressure and meet tight deadlines, prioritizing tasks and opportunities with acute attention to detail.

  • Excellent design and typography skills as well as file preparation to production for print and digital

  • Experience reviewing print proofs and samples.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, verbal, and written communications skills - comfortable with presenting to groups.

  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders. Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams and individuals at all levels.

  • Prior direct report management an asset.

  • Copywriting skills are an asset.

  • Experience in Stripo and Campaign Monitor is an asset.

  • Experience working in non-profit is an asset.

  • Experience in project management and budgeting.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in digital marketing, social media, and event marketing.

  • This is a full-time permanent position. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work.
