Amanda Thomson

Principal Scientist at UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)

Amanda Thomson has a strong background in ecology and hydrology. Amanda started their career at Scottish Natural Heritage in 1997 as a Woodlands Officer and later became a Geographic Information Systems Coordinator. In 2004, they joined the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) as an Ecological Modeller and was promoted to Ecosystems Modeller (Band 6) in 2005. Amanda played a key role in delivering UK greenhouse gas accounting in the land use sector and led scientific bids and projects worth over £1.6 million. Amanda is currently a Principal Scientist at UKCEH, a position they have held since 2022.

Amanda Thomson completed their education with a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Stirling in 2003. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Geographical Information Systems from The University of Edinburgh in 1997. Amanda began their academic journey by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from the University of Bristol in 1996.
