Ben Connah

Inquiry Secretary at UK Covid-19 Inquiry

Ben Connah serves as the Inquiry Secretary for the UK Covid-19 Inquiry since November 2021, overseeing administrative functions and supporting the Chair in decision-making. Prior to this role, Ben held various senior positions at the Department for Education, including Director of Inquiry Set-up, Temporary Director for the Covid Vaccine Deployment Programme, and Head of Covid Response Planning and Delivery. Responsibilities included managing the relationship with the Student Loans Company and developing frameworks for the care of vulnerable children. Additional experience includes serving as a Non-Executive Director on the Audit and Risk Committee at the Northern Ireland Office and Deputy Director for Victim and Criminal Proceedings Policy at the Ministry of Justice. Ben holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from the University of Leicester and a Master of Arts in Legal and Political Theory from UCL, along with management education from Cranfield School of Management and Hult Ashridge.

UK Covid-19 Inquiry

This is the independent public inquiry to examine the UK’s preparedness and response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and to learn lessons for the future. The Inquiry has been established under the Inquiries Act 2005. This means that the Chair will have the power to compel the production of documents and call witnesses to give evidence on oath.
