Sotiris Georgiopoulos is an experienced professional in the energy sector, currently serving as the Director of Distribution System Operator and Head of Smart Grid Development at UK Power Networks since March 2009. In this role, Sotiris is responsible for the strategic development of flexibility markets and smart grid capabilities. Previously, Sotiris held positions as Project Lead for Flexible Generation Connections and Low Carbon Senior Project Manager, overseeing the award-winning £10 million Flexible Plug and Play project, which introduced innovative solutions for renewable and distributed generation connections. Prior to UK Power Networks, Sotiris worked at EDF Energy as a project manager for London 2012 Infrastructure Delivery and held roles as a sustainable energy projects engineer and graduate electrical engineer. Sotiris holds an MBA from the University of Cambridge, a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from The University of Manchester, and a Master of Science in Electrical Power Systems and Management from the University of Dundee.
