Lawrence Shiow

Lawrence Shiow, MD PhD, currently serves as the Senior Medical Director of Global Clinical Development at Ultragenyx since August 2025. Prior to this role, Lawrence held multiple senior positions at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. from April 2020 to July 2025, including Senior Medical Director for both Early Stage Portfolio Lead and CNS/Heme Therapeutic Areas, as well as Medical Director in Discovery Medicine. Earlier in the career, Lawrence was affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco from 2010 to 2020, contributing as an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics, Clinical Instructor, and Clinical Fellow in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Lawrence's academic background includes a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco, and a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
