Senior Vice President - Battery Metals Refining at Umicore

Matt Cherevaty has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Matt currently holds the position of Senior Vice President - Battery Metals Refining at Umicore since January 2024. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Vice President - Special Projects at Umicore from September 2023 to December 2023.

From 2021 to 2023, Matt worked at PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, where they served as a Member of the Board of Directors and later as the Director of Joint Ventures. Matt was responsible for joint venture governance, asset management, stakeholder relationships, and business development.

In 2023, they also held the position of Member of the Board of Commissioners at PT Sumbawa Timur Mining.

Matt's earlier work experience includes serving as a Member of the Board of Directors at Korea Nickel Company from 2022 to 2022 and at Vale Nickel (Dalian) Co. Ltd. from 2021 to 2022.

Matt began their career at Vale in 2001, where they held various managerial roles such as Business Development Manager, Manager of the Port Colborne Refinery, Manager of the Thompson Nickel Refinery, and Superintendent of various departments.

Before joining Vale, Matt worked as a Research Metallurgist at Inco Technical Services Limited, a Corporate Metallurgist at Charles Tennant & Company (Canada) Ltd., and a Co-op Student at Falconbridge.

In addition to their corporate roles, Matt has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Nickel Institute, a global association of leading primary nickel producers.

Matt Cherevaty holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management, which they completed in 2014. Matt also obtained a Global Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of St.Gallen in 2014. Prior to their MBA studies, Matt Cherevaty earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Geological and Mineral Engineering from the University of Toronto between 1993 and 1998. Additionally, they obtained a Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) certification from the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba in December 2012, and a similar certification from the Professional Engineers of Ontario in 2001.
