Full Stack Data Engineer

Engineering · Full-time · Oslo, Norway

Job description

We are looking for a Full Stack Data Engineer. Someone who can implement data models into a product pipeline as well as create them.

We are a location data company that helps businesses build better products and make smarter decisions using real-world location data.

This role sits in the Turbine Business Unit of Unacast, the location processing platform for Telcos, which comprises models and algorithms we offer to Telcos to turn their raw signal data into mobility insights. Today our models help Telcos, create insights they monetize by helping their customers answer questions like: how many people went to a music concert, how many people took a specific train or what means of travel people used on a specific road segment. We are constantly adding new data models and using the best of ML/AI to improve the mobility insights we can create using Telco data. You will be an active participant in driving the future development of Turbine.

This is an on-site hybrid position (with 2-3 days in the week working in our Oslo office, or more if you want!). In case of a change of location, Unacast will not be able to handle Visa application support or relocation.

Our main office is on Karl Johans Gate in the heart of Oslo, where we meet every week with our international colleagues, both for work and for socializing. Our welcoming office has a focus on comfort, and this is reflected in the surroundings. Being part of Unacast means being part of a friendly and efficient workplace, with opportunities to grow and advance within the company.

Why is the “Full Stack Data Scientist/Engineer” role critical to us?

Our new team member is someone who can implement/engineer data models into a production pipeline as well as build data models and algorithms for creating mobility insights using Telco data. Someone who can bridge both data engineering and data science and who is not afraid of writing production-grade code, learning how to optimize data architectures and building statistical estimators from scratch.

How will you spend your time at Unacast Turbine?

  • Creating pipelines that allow efficient and potentially near real-time processing of high volumes of data
  • Designing and creating models and algorithms for telco data (some might be ML/AI depending on needs)
  • Efficiently and flexibly writing BigQuery SQL queries that can be incorporated into the data pipelines, to solve newly arising challenges
  • Gathering, understanding and possibly challenging customer requirements, to identify the best solution and drive the development of new initiatives
  • Writing technical documentation for data models and algorithms
  • Optimizing data flows, storage and architectures to maximize efficiency and minimize costs

You are just the person we’ve been looking for if you have:

  • An academic degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, STEM or a similar field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Data Science/Engineering, preferably using Apache Airflow and Dataflow.
  • Experience using Python and SQL for data processing (preferably within the BigQuery dialect) and deploying ML models
  • Experience working with telco data
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English.
  • A positive force. Adaptable and full of curiosity, you enjoy a high degree of collaboration and working in a team.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt, embracing new concepts and tools with enthusiasm and confidence
  • Love tackling challenges and are passionate about data insights.

Tech Stack you should be comfortable with:

  • BigQuery
  • Python
  • Apache Airflow
  • Java
  • Git
  • Visualization tools: Kepler.gl, matplotlib
