David Chipanta

Unaids Country Director And Representative To The Government Of Malawi at UNAIDS

David Chipanta serves as the UNAIDS Country Director and Representative to the Government of Malawi since June 2009, directing the UNAIDS Joint Program and advising senior management on country-level mandates. Previously, David held a similar role in Namibia, focusing on combating AIDS through equitable, evidence-based services, and has extensive experience in social protection strategies within the UNAIDS secretariat. Prior roles include Country Coordinator at AIDSRelief-Kenya, where responsibilities encompassed managing a substantial treatment program, as well as consultancy and analytical positions at UNDP and Abt Associates, contributing to HIV-related initiatives in Lesotho and Zambia. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Biomedicine and Global Health from the University of Geneva, a Master's in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School, and a Bachelor's in Economics from San Diego State University.
