Derek Carter

Derek Carter has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Derek began their career as an Instructor at Guru Labs in 2003 and stayed there until 2005. Derek then moved on to the Florida Department of Health as a Linux Admin III in 2006. From 2007 to 2009, Derek served as a Sr Systems Administrator at Cox Radio Interactive. In 2009, they joined Cox Media Group digital as a Systems Engineer, where they stayed until 2010. Derek then joined CORAID as a Quality Assurance Consumer Advocate Engineer, testing and using their storage systems until 2012.

In 2010, Derek became a Sr Systems Architect at Bluehost.com. Derek worked there until 2014 when they transitioned to Nav Inc. as a Principal Software Engineer - DevOps. In this role, Derek architected, deployed, and maintained the infrastructure platform for a fintech startup. Derek also oversaw the migration of a traditional Amazon AWS infrastructure to a Kubernetes on AWS environment and improved developer workflow tooling. Derek remained at Nav Inc. until 2021, at which point they joined UserTesting as a Staff DevOps Engineer.

Most recently, in 2023, Derek became a Senior Software Engineer & DevOps Team Lead at Unchained. Overall, Derek has proven expertise in Linux infrastructure, DevOps, software engineering, and system administration.
