Misako Ito is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in communication and information, particularly within the context of UNESCO, where roles have included Regional Advisor for Africa and Advisor and Chief of the Communication and Information Unit since May 2009. Prior to this, Misako served as a Programme Specialist focused on linguistic diversity at UNESCO Headquarters from January 2005 to April 2009 and engaged with Tostan International as a Volunteer for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in early 2004. Early career highlights include managing ICT projects at IRD and overseeing environmental information at AFD.
