Ammar al-Mahdawi

Ammar AL-MAHDAWI is a seasoned professional in civil engineering and humanitarian response, currently serving as the Senior Shelter Cluster Coordinator at UNHCR since November 2012, where involvement includes leading earthquake response efforts and serving as the global lead on shelter and settlement. Prior experience includes roles such as Senior Technical Advisor at UNDP, focusing on procurement for civil and construction works, Monitoring and Quality Assurance Specialist at UN-Habitat, and Senior Engineer for construction projects in Sudan. Ammar’s career began as a Project Manager for various INGOs, with foundational roles in quality inspection at UNOPS and earlier experiences in civil engineering at Al-Nahrain University, where Ammar earned a PhD, Master's, and Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
