Dana Hughes is a seasoned communications professional with extensive experience in global media and humanitarian communications. Currently serving as the Snr Comms Advisor and Head of Comms for UNHCR's East, Horn, and Great Lakes Region of Africa since September 2014, Dana has taken on the role of Interim Head of Global Communications as of July 2023. With a track record of advising and leading strategic communication initiatives, Dana has successfully managed a multi-media content unit, collaborated with senior communications experts across regional bureaus, and supported crisis communications during emergencies. Prior to joining UNHCR, Dana worked at ABC News as a Digital Journalist and Africa Reporter, covering significant foreign affairs stories and producing impactful content across various platforms. Educational credentials include an MS in Broadcast Concentration from Columbia University and a BA in Theater Arts from Colorado State University, among other qualifications.
