Joni Koonin has diverse work experience in human resources and people development. Joni started their career in 1995 as a Personnel/Training and Development Assistant at Citizens Advice. Joni then worked as a Personnel Officer at the same organization from September 1996 to May 2000. Following that, they joined Amnesty International as a Senior Human Resources Adviser from June 2000 to May 2007. Joni then took on the role of Human Resources Manager at Amnesty International from June 2007 to May 2012. In 2013, Joni joined RIBA as a Human Resources Manager for a period of six months. Since October 2014, they have been working at Unicef UK, initially as a People and Development Manager (People, Policies and Performance) until January 2018, and then moving on to the role of People Business Partner, which they still hold.
Joni Koonin started their education at the University of Cape Town from 1990 to 1993, where they obtained a Bachelor of Social Science degree with a focus on Psychology and Sociology. In 1994, they pursued further studies at the same university and completed a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) degree in Psychology. Later, from 1998 to 2000, Joni attended the University of Westminster, where they earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Human Resources Management.
