Melis Akkerman has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. They began their career as a Marketing & Design Intern at Closed GmbH in 2013 and later gained experience as an Online Marketing Intern at Liquorish Clothing in 2014. In 2015, Melis worked as a Bartender at THE MARQUIS OF WESTMINSTER LIMITED. In 2016, they interned as a PR and Branding Intern at MuthKomm GmbH. Melis then transitioned to working in strategic planning and communication roles. From 2018 to 2020, they worked as a Junior Planner and Strategic Planning Intern at TLC Marketing Worldwide. They then joined The Goat Agency in 2020 and held the positions of Strategist and Senior Strategist until 2022. Most recently, Melis joined Edelman in 2022 as a Strategist and is currently working as a Senior Strategic Communications Planner at UNICEF UK, starting in 2023.

From 2016 to 2017, Melis attended the University of Westminster and obtained a Master's degree in Marketing Communications.
In the years 2012 to 2015, Melis studied at the University of the Arts London and earned a Bachelor's degree in Retail Branding and Visual Merchandising.
Prior to that, from 2011 to 2012, Melis pursued an Access to HE Diploma at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, focusing on Fashion Design and Industry.
In 2011, Melis also attended Istituto Marangoni and successfully completed a summer course in Fashion/Apparel Design.
Lastly, from 2003 to 2011, Melis Akkerman attended Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums, where they completed their GCSEs and A-Levels.
In addition to their formal education, Melis obtained several certifications. They earned the IDM Award in Behavioural Economics from the Institute of Data & Marketing (IDM) in June 2020. In May 2020, Melis received a Digital Marketing Nanodegree from Udacity. In November 2017, Melis obtained a Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute. Furthermore, they were awarded the Westminster Business School Prize by the University of Westminster in November 2017.
