Chitra Kumar

Chitra Kumar is a prominent leader in climate and energy policy, currently serving as the Managing Director of Climate and Energy at the Union of Concerned Scientists since May 2023. Kumar's previous roles include Director of the Office of Policy, Partnerships and Program Development at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from April 2021 to June 2023, focusing on environmental justice and community support. Kumar has also held significant positions at the Aspen Institute Community Strategies Group as a Senior Fellow, and at the White House Council on Environmental Quality as Deputy Associate Director for Water, where extensive collaboration led to impactful policy initiatives. With over 16 years of experience in environmental policy and planning, Kumar's educational background includes a Master of City Planning in Environmental Policy and Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in International Policy for Environment and Negotiation from Boston University.
