Daniella Ballou-Aares

Daniella Ballou-Aares is an advisor at Unite America. Daniella previously worked as an advisory partner at Dalberg from March 2004 to May 2019. Before that, they served as the Senior Advisor for Development to the Secretary of State from July 2012 to January 2017. In this role, they were responsible for moving beyond traditional foreign aid approaches to achieve sustainable economic growth by boosting private investment and modernizing how the $30bn foreign assistance budget is spent. This included expanding facilities for private investors in Africa and partnering with technology companies on data innovations related to health, environment and gender equality. Daniella was instrumental in securing the 193-country agreement on the Sustainable Development Goals, driving data-driven targeting of the $6bn annual global HIV budget and increasing the Secretary of State’s focus on attracting private investment to the next generation of emerging markets.

Daniella Ballou-Aares has an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, and a BS in Operations Research from Cornell University.
