Andrew Betz

Andrew Betz has a diverse work experience spanning across various industries. Andrew currently holds the position of Vice President Research and Development at United Automobile Insurance Company since February 2023.

Prior to this, Andrew worked at Farmers Insurance starting from November 2004 until February 2023, where they held the role of Assistant Vice President - R&D. During their tenure, they led research and development efforts focused on developing proprietary credit models, symbol models, and rate orders to improve product segmentation and facilitate profitable growth. Andrew was also responsible for project planning, obtaining modeling resources, integrating modeling staff, and training individuals in model building techniques and evaluation.

Before joining Farmers Insurance, Andrew served as a Senior Analyst in the Direct Product R&D Group at Progressive Insurance from 2002 to 2004. Their primary research focused on modeling pure premium using statistical and data mining techniques, including neural nets, decision trees, and finite mixture models/latent class regression.

From 1994 to 2001, Andrew worked at GTE/Verizon as a Senior Principal Member of Technical Staff within the Decision Analysis Techniques (DANTE) Group. In this role, they provided consulting services and applied statistical and data mining techniques to solve problems throughout the company.

Andrew's career began with a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cognitive Psychology at Boise State University from 1992 to 1994.
