Eleanor Carey has extensive experience in legal support and operations management within the nonprofit and political sectors. Currently serving as the Director of the Legal Support Staff Department at the United Community Housing Coalition since September 2020, Eleanor has successfully managed a team of over 25 staff members, coordinated legal support services for multiple attorneys, and played a key role in processing cases under a federal Eviction Diversion Program grant. Prior to this role, Eleanor worked as Operations Director and Deputy Finance Director for Rashida Tlaib for Congress, overseeing campaign operations, fundraising, and logistics. Additional experience includes roles at the Community Housing Network, Healing Through Remembering, BalletX, and various other organizations, where Eleanor focused on housing resources, outreach, and research. Eleanor holds a Master of Philosophy in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Trinity College Dublin, and a Bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College.

Our mission is to help low-income residents stay in their homes and strengthen their communities, through representation, support, and ownership. United Community Housing Coalition is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing housing assistance to Detroit’s low-income residents. Since 1973, we have worked to keep people in their homes and secure affordable housing for those in need. We believe that having a place to live is a basic human right, and are passionate about preserving this right in our communities. Our services are provided to income-eligible families and individuals free of charge.
