Shaima Hussein is an experienced professional in the fields of governance, human rights, and inclusive digital economies. Currently serving as the Deputy Director of Inclusive Digital Economies at the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) since June 2022, Shaima previously held various significant positions within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from August 2009 to July 2022, including Deputy Resident Representative and Policy and Programme Specialist focused on Rule of Law, Justice, Security, and Human Rights. Other roles included Governance Specialist and Rule of Law Policy Specialist, concentrating on legal empowerment and environmental justice. Shaima's earlier experience includes serving as a Governance Sector Officer at the United Nations and significant project management roles with various organizations, emphasizing human rights monitoring and emergency response for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Educationally, Shaima holds a Master's degree in Human Rights from the University of Essex and is pursuing a PhD in Political Science from the Arab Institute for Research and Studies.
