Chief Communications Officer at United Nations Global Compact

Dan Thomas has extensive experience in communications and media roles, particularly in international organizations. Dan currently serves as the Chief Communications Officer for the United Nations Global Compact. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Adviser, Advocacy and Communications at UNICEF.

Dan has also held positions at the United Nations, where they served as the Director of Communications & Spokesperson for the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly, and as the Senior Communications Officer for the UN Secretary-General's Climate Change Support Team.

Before joining the United Nations, Dan worked as the Head of Media and Communication at GAVI, The Vaccine Alliance, and as a Senior Producer at UNICEF, where they pioneered online multimedia communications and digital content gathering.

Dan's earlier experience includes working as a Broadcast Journalist at BBC News and as a Correspondent for Reuters in London and Hong Kong. In these roles, they covered various world events and was known for using small digital video cameras to conduct newsgathering.

Dan Thomas completed their A Levels in English, French, Politics, and Economics at Stowe School from 1978 to 1983. Following this, they pursued a B.SC (Econ) in Political Studies at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd from 1984 to 1987. In 2017, Dan Thomas enrolled at the University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne, where they obtained a Master of Arts degree in Art/Art Studies, General in 2018.
