Achim Steiner

Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme at United Nations

Achim Steiner is the current Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme at United Nations. Prior to this, they were the Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) from June 2010 to December 2016. From March 2009 to May 2011, they were also Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). Before joining UN Environment, they served as Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Achim also serves on a number of advisory councils and boards including as the International Vice Chair of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).

Achim Steiner has a Master's degree in international development and environmental policy from the University of Oxford.

They are on a team with Rola A. A. H. Dashti - Executive Secretary for the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, Nada Youssef A. Al Nashif - Acting High Commissioner for Human Rights & Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Inger La Cour Andersen - Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme. Achim Steiner reports to António Guterres, UN Secretary-General.
