Elena Rice-Howell

Special Assistant To The Under-secretary-general at United Nations

Elena Rice-Howell is an experienced professional in international relations and mine action, currently serving as Special Assistant to the Under-Secretary-General at the United Nations since July 2006. Throughout this tenure, Elena has held various significant roles, including Special Assistant to the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Somalia and Head of Programmes for the UN Mine Action Service in Somalia. Prior experiences include serving as Programme Officer for UNMAS in Afghanistan and South Sudan, and being part of the Emergency Response Team in Gaza. Elena's career began at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, focusing on mine action. Elena holds a Master of Science in International & European Politics and a Master of Arts (Hons) in Politics, both from The University of Edinburgh.
