Andre previously served as the Executive Assistant to the Chairman and CEO of United Technologies Corporation from April 2018 to April 2019. Chad Matter is region vice president, Industrial region for the combined organization. Previously, he served as region vice president of RSC's Gulf region since April 2008. Chad began his career with RSC in August 1995 through the sales trainee program in Houston, Texas. Between 1996 and 1998, he was promoted to outside sales representative positions in the San Antonio and Austin markets, and he was recognized as sales representative of the year in 1998. In November 1999, Chad was promoted to sales manager for Central and South Texas. In 2002, he was promoted to district manager over the Central and South Texas district. Chris Burlog was named Vice President - Midwest Region in 2009, eight years after joining [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) as district manager. Following 7 years as a successful DM, Chris was promoted to the position of RSMM for the Rocky Mountain Region, where he achieved great success in Key Customer and New Account growth. Prior to this, they served as the Chair Board of Trustees at Tattnall Square Academy from July 2010 to June 2014. In this role, they provided leadership and governance oversight to the school. Nick was responsible for developing and managing relationships with various stakeholders, approving the annual budget and audit reports, and coordinating the annual performance evaluation of the Head of School. William “Ted” Grace was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of United Rentals in November 2022, after having served as the Company’s Interim Chief Financial Officer since July 2022. In his current role, Mr. Grace is responsible for oversight of the Company’s accounting, treasury, risk management and financial planning and analysis departments. He previously served as the Company’s Vice President of Investor Relations, since joining the Company in 2016, with responsibility for managing all aspects of communications between the Company’s leadership, its investors and the broader financial community. Since joining the Company, he has been an integral member of the senior corporate finance leadership team contributing across financial planning and analysis, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and capital allocation. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Grace spent over 20 years in financial services, most recently as a research analyst at Susquehanna International Group covering the industrial machinery and building materials sectors. He previously held the same responsibilities at Avondale Partners and Goldman Sachs & Co. Earlier in his career, he served in the investment banking departments of predecessor organizations at Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Daniel C. Sparks is the VP, Sales Operations & Support at [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals). Daniel has over 10 years of experience in finance and sales operations. 

Sparks began their career as a Financial Analyst at IBM from 2001 to 2004. Daniel then moved to [Staples](/org/staples), where they were the Manager of Financial Analysis/Business Intelligence from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that and beginning in 1985, Ms. Martore served in various other management positions with [TEGNA](/org/tegna), including as President and Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to [TEGNA](/org/tegna), Ms. Martore worked for 12 years in the banking industry. Ms. Martore graduated from [Wellesley College](/org/wellesley-college). While there, she was named a [Wellesley](/org/wellesley) Scholar for academic excellence. Ms. Martore has financial expertise, broad business experience and extensive management, leadership, operational and transformation expertise as a result of her 32 years of experience in a variety of senior leadership roles at [TEGNA](/org/tegna). She was a driving force in growing [Gannett](/org/gannett), the nation’s largest local media company, which doubled its broadcast portfolio under her leadership. She also led the separation of [Gannett](/org/gannett) into two publicly traded companies. Ms. Martore has won numerous business and industry honors for her leadership, including receiving the CEO Lifetime Achievement Award from the Washington Business Journal, being named, as one of “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” by [Fortune Magazine](/org/fortune-magazine) for three consecutive years, named to Forbes’ “100 Most Powerful Women” list as well as previously being named by Institutional Investor magazine as one of the Best CFO’s in America and Best CFO in America in the publishing and advertising agencies category for three consecutive years. Ms. Martore’s background, experience and judgment as chief executive officer and chief financial officer of a major publicly traded company provide her with leadership, business, financial, governance and cybersecurity skills that will benefit the Company and the Board. Terri L. Kelly became a director of the Company in May 2018. Ms. Kelly is the former President and CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates (“Gore”), a highly innovative, privately-held family-owned enterprise with more than $3 billion in annual revenues, serving in this capacity since 2005. Gore specializes in advanced materials that are utilized in a wide array of high-value products from GORE-TEX® fabric, implantable medical devices, venting products, and electronic cables. Gore is well known for its unique management philosophy and culture, and is consistently recognized as a top workplace across the globe; for example, Gore has been on Fortune’s “Best Companies to Work For” list for 20 consecutive years. Ms. Kelly joined Gore as an Engineer in 1983 and has expertise across multiple industries including consumer products, defense, industrial, medical devices, and pharmbio. As CEO, she led this global organization of close to 10,000 associates with over 45 manufacturing and sales locations. Ms. Kelly graduated summa cum laude from the [University of Delaware](/org/university-of-delaware) with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Ms. Kelly has strong business and technical acumen with key competencies in creating a collaborative and empowered work environment to achieve successful business outcomes. Prior to that, he was a Senior Vice President at Visa Inc., where he was responsible for driving the go-to-market strategy for some of the company's most disruptive products and innovations. Earlier in his career, Shiv spent several years at [PepsiCo](/org/pepsico) leading digital marketing globally and before that was at Razorfish Inc. in Europe and North America. His work has been recognized by leading-edge industry and consumer publications such as [Fortune Magazine](/org/fortune-magazine) , [Adweek](/org/adweek) , and The Harvard Business Review . Bobby J. Griffin became a director of the Company in January 2009 and was appointed Lead Independent Director in May 2019. From March 2005 to March 2007, Mr. Griffin served as president—international operations for Ryder System, Inc., a global provider of transportation, logistics and supply chain management solutions. Beginning in 1986, Mr. Griffin served in various other management positions with Ryder, including as executive vice president—international operations from 2003 to March 2005 and executive vice president—global supply chain operations from 2001 to 2003. Prior to Ryder, Mr. Griffin was an executive at ATE Management and Service Company, Inc., which was acquired by Ryder in 1986. Mr. Griffin has notable business experience in the areas of transportation, logistics and supply chain management, including extensive international experience, due to his past senior leadership positions with Ryder System, Inc. In addition to these attributes, Mr. Griffin’s public company directorship experience provides a valuable perspective for the Board and the Company. Marc A. Bruno became a director of the Company in May 2018. Mr. Bruno has been the Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Food & Facilities, for [Aramark](/org/aramark) Corporation (“Aramark”) since November 2019. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer, Sports, Leisure, Corrections, Facilities, and K-12 for [Aramark](/org/aramark) since 2014. In his current role, Mr. Bruno is focused on driving [Aramark](/org/aramark)’s hospitality culture and growth across [Aramark](/org/aramark)’s eight U.S. food and facilities businesses. In his prior role, he directed hospitality, retail merchandise and facility programs for premier sports and entertainment facilities, meeting venues, parks and cultural attractions as well as food and support solutions for business dining, K-12 clients and correctional facilities. Since joining [Aramark](/org/aramark) as a campus hire in 1993, Mr. Bruno has risen through the ranks by serving in a variety of sales and operating roles in the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Bruno also leads [Aramark](/org/aramark)’s Olympic projects, for which the company has served as the dining and catering services provider for 16 Olympic Games. His involvement with the project spans six Olympics, dating back to the 1996 Atlanta Games. In 2010, SportsBusiness Journal named Mr. Bruno to its annual global list of “Forty Under 40,” recognizing the best and brightest young executives in the sports business industry. Kenneth Mettel became senior vice president, performance analytics in December 2014. Prior to that, he held the role of senior vice president, planning and analysis, beginning in April 2011. Earlier, he served as the company's vice president-strategy and planning. Prior to joining [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) in 2001, Mr. Mettel held senior management positions with [International Paper](/org/international-paper) as vice president, strategic planning, and with [Unilever](/org/unilever) as director of financial analysis. His previous experience includes five years as finance manager, U.S. Toys with Mattel, Inc.

Dale Asplund was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer in May 2019, after previously serving as executive vice president—business services and chief information officer since January 2017. He previously served as senior vice president—business services and chief information officer since April 2012 and senior vice president—business services since 2011. Joining the Company in 1998, he has held various senior positions that included responsibility for supply chain, fleet management and shared services. Mr. Asplund previously worked for United Waste Systems, Inc. as a divisional manager.

Kevin Parr was named senior vice president – operations in 2013. He has more than 30 years of industry experience, first with UpRight, Inc., and then with Horizon Equipment, a business of W.R. Carpenter North America. He joined [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) in 2000 upon the company’s acquisition of Horizon, initially serving as fleet manager for the Aerial East Region, and subsequently as district manager, region sales and marketing manager, region vice president – Aerial East, and vice president – Northeast Region

Matthew J. Flannery was appointed as our president in March 2018, and continues to serve as chief operating officer.  Previously, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer, a title he had held since April 2012. Mr. Flannery has extensive experience in all areas of the Company’s operations, having previously served as executive vice president—operations and sales, senior vice president—operations east and in two regional vice president roles in aerial operations. Mr. Flannery has also served as a district manager, district sales manager and branch manager of the Company. He has over two decades of sales, management and operations experience in the rental industry. Mr. Flannery joined the Company in 1998 as part of the Company’s acquisition of Connecticut-based McClinch Equipment.

Tom Jones was promoted to vice president of field sales in 2014, 14 years after joining [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) as a district manager. Previously he held region vice president roles in the Southeast, and most recently the Mid-Atlantic region for the combined organization. Tom has over two decades of experience in the equipment rental industry, beginning with Hertz Equipment Rental, Inc. in 1990. He also had a two-year tenure with AMECO as vice president of North America and Caribbean Operations.

Larry D. De Shon has served as a director of the Company since August 2021. Mr. De Shon’s career spans more than 40 years in the aviation and transportation industries, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer of Avis Budget Group, Inc. (“Avis”), a role he held from January 2016 until his retirement in December 2019. Prior to this and beginning in October 2006, he served as President of Avis Budget Group International, among other positions, with oversight of the Avis, Budget, Zipcar, Payless, Maggiore and Apex businesses in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Prior to Avis, he served in various executive roles during 28 years with UAL Corporation (now United Continental Holdings, Inc.) where he led United Airlines’ global airport operations, including safety, customer service, logistics, product development and internal communications. Mr. De Shon holds degrees in communications and sociology from the University of Missouri. In addition to United Rentals, Mr. De Shon serves as a director on the boards of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. and Air New Zealand Limited.

Larry was named Region Vice President - Power & HVAC in 2019, and has over 29 years of rental industry experience. He began his career with [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) in 2006 as a Branch Manager for Power & HVAC locations on the East Coast in Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA. He then served as District Manager for the Southwest and the Northwest Power & HVAC Districts. Most recently, he lead the Power & HVAC Climate and Electrical Solutions vertical expansion, and held the role of Director of Operational Excellence before being promoted to the RVP position.

José B. Alvarez became a director of the Company in January 2009. Mr. Alvarez has been on the faculty of the [Harvard Business School](/org/harvard-business-school) since February 2009. Until December 2008, he was the executive vice president—global business development for Royal Ahold NV, one of the world’s largest grocery retailers. Mr. Alvarez joined Royal Ahold in 2001 and subsequently held several key senior management positions, including president and chief executive officer of the company’s Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover brands. Previously, he served in executive positions at Shaw’s Supermarket, Inc. and American Stores Company. Mr. Alvarez held several key management positions with Royal Ahold NV, one of the world’s largest grocery retailers, providing him with business leadership experience in, and valuable knowledge of, the global retail industry. These experiences, together with his other public company directorships and academic credentials as a member of the [Harvard Business School](/org/harvard-business-school) faculty, allow him to contribute to the Company and the Board a combination of strategic thinking and industry knowledge with respect to marketing and retailing. Mr. Alvarez holds an MBA degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and an AB degree from Princeton. Mr. Alvarez served previously as a director of The TJX Companies, Inc. and Church & Dwight Co., Inc.

Kim Harris Jones became a director of the Company in September 2018. Ms. Harris Jones most recently served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller of [Mondelez International](/org/mondelez-international) from 2012 until 2015. She previously served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller at Kraft Foods Inc. from 2009 until 2012 before Mondelez was formed by Kraft’s split into two domestic and international publicly-traded corporations. Prior to her time at Kraft, Ms. Harris Jones had a 17-year career at Chrysler LLC, where she started as a Senior Manager, Labor Relations in Benefits Finance then served in a variety of leadership positions, most notably as Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller from 2008 to 2009. Before Chrysler, she spent six years at [General Motors](/org/general-motors). Ms. Harris Jones earned a BBA in accounting and an MBA in finance from the University of Michigan. Ms. Harris Jones was named to the list of “25 Women to Watch” by CFO Magazine and to the “75 Most Powerful Women in Business” by Black Enterprise Magazine. She is an experienced former finance executive who has spent time in automotive and consumer businesses. More recently, she has accumulated experience as a board director. Ms. Harris Jones has extensive management, financial and business experience at large complex corporations undergoing significant corporate growth and change. Ms. Harris Jones also serves on the Board of Directors of TrueBlue, Inc., Fossil Group, Inc., Ethiopian North American Health Professionals Association and the finance committee of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council.

Michael Durand was appointed to lead the company’s Pacific West Region in 2013. He joined [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) in 2002 as a branch manager, and held subsequent field management roles as sales manager, district manager, and regional sales and marketing director for the Northwest Region.

Michael J. Kneeland was appointed chief executive officer of [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals), and a director of the Company, in 2008. From 2008 until March 2018, he also served as president. Previously, he served as interim chief executive officer from 2007 to 2008.  Mr. Kneeland joined [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals) in 1998 as district manager upon the Company’s acquisition of Equipment Supply Company. In 1999, his responsibilities were expanded to include multiple districts within [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals)’ aerial operations. He was subsequently named vice president-aerial operations in 2000, and vice president-southeast region in 2001, before being appointed executive vice president-operations in 2003. His more than 35 years of management experience in the equipment rental industry includes key positions in sales and operations with private, public and investor-owned companies, including Free State Industries, Inc. Mr. Kneeland served as Free State’s president from 1995 until the company was sold to Equipment Supply Company in 1996. From 1996 to 1998 he served as general manager for Rylan Rents d/b/a Free State Industries, a division of Equipment Supply. At the time it was acquired by [United Rentals](/org/united-rentals), Equipment Supply was the largest aerial equipment rental company in North America. Mr. Kneeland has served in a variety of positions in the equipment rental industry for over 35 years, including a number of senior management positions with the Company, as well as Free State Industries, Inc. and Equipment Supply Company. He has extensive experience and knowledge of the competitive environment in which the Company operates. Further, he has demonstrated strategic and operational acumen that the Board believes has been of significant value to the Company. In 2011, Mr. Kneeland was appointed to serve on the board of directors of YRC Worldwide, Inc., a leading provider of transportation and global logistics services, where he serves as the Chairman of the Compensation Committee. As of 2017, Mr. Kneeland also serves on the board of directors of Anticimex Group, a private pest-control company with headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.  In 2015, he was designated Co-Chair, Transportation Stakeholder Alliance (The Business Council of Fairfield County) and was also appointed to the National Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics.
