James Gamage

Director, Innovation And The Social Impact Lab at United Way of Calgary and Area

James Gamage has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning various roles and industries. James is currently the Director of Innovation and The Social Impact Lab at United Way of Calgary and Area, where they began working in March 2020. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Manager - Western Canada at Market Gravity from January 2019 to September 2019.

From 2011 to 2018, James worked at ATB Financial, starting as the Managing Director of Emerge and later transitioning to the role of Managing Director of Banking Innovation. James was responsible for driving innovative initiatives and developing new business models to enhance ATB's brand and combat disruption from fintech challengers.

Before joining ATB Financial, James briefly worked as a Consultant at Market Gravity in 2011 and as the Head of Innovation, Europe at Aviva from February 2011 to May 2011.

Their earlier experience includes working at RBS Insurance as the Head of Innovation, where they led the innovation agenda across various brands and implemented a systematic process for scaling innovation. James also held other positions such as Senior Proposition Manager, Development Manager, Solutions, and Project Manager during their tenure at RBS Insurance from 2000 to 2011.

James started their career at Lloyds Bank in 1989 as an Assistant Product Manager and later moved to Barclays as a Senior Marketing Manager.

James Gamage received a BSc (Hons) degree in Geography from Swansea University, completing their education from 1986 to 1989.
