EVP & Chief Medical Officer at Rochester Regional Health

Robert R. Mayo, MD, leads the design, integration, and implementation of multiple leadership teams, clinical departments and patient safety and regulatory functions as Chief Medical Officer at Rochester Regional Health. He also provides leadership modeling and mentoring for leaders and oversees a robust Physician Advisor Program.

Dr. Mayo served as Chief Medical Officer at Rochester General Hospital and moved into his current position when Rochester Regional Health formed in 2014 with the merger of Rochester General Hospital and Unity Hospital. Before that, Dr. Mayo co-lead the launch of the Rochester General Health System Patient Safety Institute, that governs and implements vital regulatory, performance improvement, infection prevention, medication safety and patient safety activities. Among the accomplishments of the Institute thus far are a 50 percent reduction in mortality and more than $1 million in savings after the implementation of Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Programs. Dr. Mayo also still practices as a clinical nephrologist. He practiced in Michigan and Virginia before starting his tenure in Rochester in 2002.
