Chris Townsend

Chris Townsend is an accomplished audio software professional with extensive experience in audio design and development. Currently serving as a Sr. Software Architect at Universal Audio since June 2021, Chris previously held the positions of CEO and CTO at Townsend Labs Inc. from April 2015 to June 2021, where the focus was on developing professional audio recording products. Prior experience includes roles as an Audio DSP Consultant at Full Code Audio and significant contributions at Avid Technology, where Chris developed guitar amplifier modeling technology and led the team behind the "Eleven" plug-in for Pro Tools HD Accel. With a background in DSP engineering at multiple companies, including Clavia, Access Music Electronics, Aardvark Computer Systems, and Arboretum Systems, Chris has designed various audio algorithms, demonstrating a strong foundation in digital audio technology. Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Davis, and has completed advanced courses with Landmark Education.
