Roland Kwame Akafia has extensive work experience in finance and strategy roles. From 2005 to 2008, they worked as a Finance Assistant at OLG Consultancy in the UK. In 2010, they joined the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning as a Financial Analyst, where they focused on reforming State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and promoting Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). From 2016 to 2017, they served as the Acting Head of the Project & Financial Analysis Unit at the Ministry of Finance, responsible for gate-keeping functions in public investment management. Since 2017, Roland has been working at Universal Merchant Bank, initially as the Head of Public Private Partnerships and currently as the Head of Business Strategy, overseeing the PPP Incubator Centre and supporting the Private Sector's involvement in PPP projects.

Roland Kwame Akafia has a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance from the University of Ghana, which they obtained from 1998 to 2002. Roland Kwame later pursued a Master's degree in Finance and Business Management at the University of Bedfordshire from 2004 to 2006. Additionally, they completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership & Management of Public Private Partnership at the Commonwealth Business School from 2012 to 2013.
