Dirk Sommerfeldt has extensive experience in the field of pediatric and adolescent orthopedic trauma, holding the position of Dept. Director at AKK Altonaer Kinderkrankenhaus gGmbH since July 2006 and serving as Head of Section at Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf since October 2017. Prior to these roles, Dirk held the position of Attending/Senior Registrar from January 2001 to June 2006 at Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf, focusing on teaching, research, and patient care in the Department of Trauma, Hand, and Reconstructive Surgery. Dirk's academic journey includes a postdoctoral research fellowship at Stony Brook University from August 1998 to December 2000, where research was conducted on molecular mechanisms of biocompatibility. Dirk completed residency and fellowship training at Goethe University from January 1991 to July 1998 and holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Goethe University Frankfurt, in addition to a Master's degree in Medical Education from the University of Bern.
