Michael Schmid

Michael Schmid is an experienced professional in bioinformatics and lab IT, currently serving as the Head of Bioinformatics & Lab IT at the Molecular Tumor Profiling Unit of Universitätsspital Zürich since May 2023. Previously, Michael founded Genexa AG, leading the company from May 2018 to April 2023. Prior to that, a tenure as a Bioinformatician at Agroscope involved de novo sequencing, comparative genomics, and phylogenetic analyses from June 2015 to August 2019. Michael's early career included work as an Electrical Engineer at ECOM Engineering from 2008 to 2010. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Microbiology and Bioinformatics from the University of Zurich and a Dipl. Ing. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from ZHAW School of Engineering.
