Gregory Hamez is a Professor at Université de Lorraine since September 2017, having previously served as an Associate Professor at the same institution from September 2005 to August 2017. Gregory's teaching expertise includes spatial planning, geography of Europe, spatial analysis, and cartography, while research focuses on territorial cohesion, accessibility to services, and border theory. As Directeur du département Géographie Environnement Aménagement from September 2013 to September 2016, Gregory led the master's project "Urbanisme et Aménagement" and the trinational project Border Studies. Previous roles include guest editor for Belgeo, research on border theory at CNRS UMR8504, and a post-doctoral position at CNRS from October 2002 to August 2005. Gregory holds a PhD in Geography and a Master's degree in Geography and Spatial Planning from University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne.
