Katie Barclay

Council Member at University of Adelaide

Katie Barclay is Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence in the History of Emotions and Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History at the University of Adelaide. She is the staff representative on Council. Barclay received her MA(Hons), MPhil and PhD from the University of Glasgow and worked at the Institute of Historical Research, London, the University of Warwick and Queen's University, Belfast, before migrating to Australia in 2011 when she joined the University of Adelaide. She is an internationally-renowned and award-winning historian, with a particular specialism in histories of emotion, gender and family life. Barclay has previous experience of leading a large charity as a board member of Glasgow Women's Aid, is on the Adelaide branch committee of the NTEU, and has acted as Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and a wide range of other roles for a number of historical research organisations. She has experience of facilitating industry partnerships with researchers, managing large grants and their associated personnel, and engaging with community groups and the media as part of education and research outreach. Barclay is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, which promotes excellence in university teaching, and has written on pedagogy in history teaching and translational research works for the student market. She has a particular interest in university governance, both as someone who works within the sector, and as an academic research interest.
