Nerea Cuesta-Gomez

Postdoctoral Fellow - Korbutt/ Pepper Laboratory

Nerea Cuesta-Gomez, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta, focusing on islet transplant research in the Korbutt/Pepper Laboratory since April 2021. Previously, Nerea served in various roles at the University of Glasgow from January 2017 to April 2021, including Tutor and Laboratory Demonstrator for the School of Life Sciences. Nerea's PhD research centered on the immunomodulatory effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in relation to their tissue of origin. At the University of Dundee, Nerea conducted postgraduate research on Hipk2's role in regulating HO1 and completed an undergraduate thesis on human protein interactions with the retinoblastoma protein. Nerea's educational background includes a PhD in Immunology and Cell Therapy from the University of Glasgow, an MRes in Cancer Biology from the University of Dundee, and a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Universidad del País Vasco.
