Sue Berelowitz is an experienced professional with a strong commitment to human rights and social welfare. Currently serving as a Governor at the University of Brighton since March 2023, Berelowitz has previously held significant leadership roles, including Chair of Freedom from Torture from September 2017 to February 2024, where efforts focused on providing rehabilitation for torture victims across multiple UK cities. Additional leadership experience includes serving as Chair at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College from March 2020 to May 2023 and as a Trustee of the Hans Albrecht Foundation, which promotes human rights. Berelowitz also has a notable background in child advocacy, having worked as Deputy Children's Commissioner for England and Chief Executive of the Office of the Children's Commissioner from October 2008 to April 2015. Educational qualifications include a Master's in Social Work from the University of Sussex and a degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
