Robert Wachter

Robert Wachter serves as the Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at UCSF since July 1995, leading one of the top academic medicine departments in the United States while also engaging in clinical practice, research, and writing focused on health policy, quality, patient safety, and information technology. Wachter founded and directed the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF, recognized as one of the nation's finest, and held the position of Chair at the American Board of Internal Medicine from July 2012 to June 2013. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, a fellowship from Stanford University School of Medicine, and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Pennsylvania.
