Michelle S. is a Machine Learning Fellow at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension, building upon a diverse background in journalism, product management, and software engineering. Prior experience includes a Journalist role at CNN, where Michelle published widely-read articles on the 2024 U.S. elections, and an Innovation Associate position at National Journal, focused on data-driven storytelling and user engagement through interactive visualizations. As a Product Manager at Capital One, Michelle launched a self-service release platform that significantly streamlined feature deployment, led initiatives for improved credit access for students, and collaborated closely with engineering teams. Earlier experiences include software engineering internships at Lyft and Microsoft, as well as research on self-driving vehicles at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Science and Consumer Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
