Penny Karanasou

Penny Karanasou is an accomplished academic and industry professional currently serving as an Assistant Research Professor and Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge since November 2024. Prior to this role, Penny served as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist and Machine Learning Scientist at Amazon from March 2016 to June 2024. Penny's earlier experience includes a role as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge from November 2013 to February 2016 and as a PhD student at LIMSI CNRS from September 2009 to August 2013. Additionally, Penny contributed as a Student Research Associate at SRI International in the summer of 2011. Academic credentials include a PhD in Automatic Speech Recognition and Speech Processing from Paris-Sud University (2009-2013), a Master's degree in Logic, Semantics, Cognition and Computing from Université Paris-Sorbonne (2008-2009), and an Engineer's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the National Technical University of Athens (2002-2008).
