Simon Buckingham Shum currently serves as a STRIx Researcher at the University of Cambridge's Digital Education Futures Initiative since March 2025. Prior experience includes positions as Professor of Learning Informatics and Director of the Connected Intelligence Centre at the University of Technology Sydney, focusing on human-centered Learning Analytics and AI in Education. Previously, Simon held roles at The Open University, including Professor of Learning Informatics and Associate Director at the Knowledge Media Institute, where efforts were directed towards integrating emerging technologies with broader educational strategies. Simon was also a Senior Lecturer, leading projects on software tools for collective sensemaking, and served as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Bristol. Additionally, Simon contributed as Chair of Governors at Bushfield School, guiding the institution through a significant improvement phase. Academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Psychology with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction from the University of York and an M.Sc. in Ergonomics from UCL.
