Samuel Prudence

Senior Research Fellow at University of Canterbury

Samuel Prudence, PhD, is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Canterbury, focusing on engineering filamentous fungi to inhibit methane production in the rumen gut since August 2025. Previously, Samuel held the position of Senior Scientist at Better Dairy, leading a team in genome engineering and protein expression within filamentous fungi and other hosts from May 2022 to August 2025. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at Queen Mary University of London from October 2021 to May 2022, Samuel utilized high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing methods to investigate the molecular mechanisms of DMS-dependent methane production by sediment-residing microbes. Samuel earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Microbiology from the University of East Anglia, where a Doctoral Researcher role was held from September 2017 to October 2021. Prior education includes a BSc in Molecular Biology & Genetics and participation in the iGEM competition to tackle global challenges through biotechnology solutions.
